Seymour Church gives glory to God by following the Father’s call to become mature through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Deacon Board exists to advance this purpose of Seymour Church by exercising leadership in those tasks which belong distinctively to the office of deacon as defined by the Church Order of the Christian Reformed Church.
Deacons are members of the Deacon Board by virtue of their office. Deacons (both administrative deacons and shepherd deacons) will be selected through the approved nomination process and serve a three-year term.
Seven (7) Shepherd Deacons and three (3) Administrative Deacons will serve on the Deacon Board.
An administrative deacon will serve as the chairperson of the Deacon Board and will also serve on the Administrative Board.
An administrative deacon will serve as the secretary of the Deacon Board and will also serve on the Administrative Board.
An administrative deacon who is appointed as treasurer will also serve as on the Administrative Board.
The Senior Pastor will serve as the pastoral advisor to the Deacon Board.
The Deacon Board will ordinarily meet on the third Monday in the months of January, March, May, July, September and November. The meetings will begin at 6:30 PM.
The Deacon Board is directly accountable to the Council of Seymour Church to which it will report by means of a set of minutes edited for confidentiality.
The responsibilities of the Deacon Board include the following:
- Pray for the staff, ministries and mission of Seymour Church.
- Conduct its work according to the Church Order of the Christian Reformed Church.
- Promote the stewardship of the church.
- Provide benevolence.
- Coordinate and schedule offerings for appropriate causes.
- Arrange for the proper counting, recording, and depositing of funds.
- Promote social justice.
