Named for the traditional symbol of Christianity, FISH for My People originated in England in 1962 to provide free transportation for those who need it to go to doctor and dentist appointments. In October 1969, FISH for My People was established in Grand Rapids by a group of concerned Christians from several churches who felt a strong desire to show God’s love to our community. Seymour Church joined the FISH program in February of 1972 and is one of eight (8) churches remaining active in this ministry.
Over the past 45 years, volunteers from Seymour serving as FISH Listeners, Captains and Drivers have been a real blessing to many, many people! We thank the Lord for all who have helped in the past or are still active in this important ministry. Our present FISH team remains dedicated and enthusiastic about helping the needy in our community.
Our driving day is usually the 7th of each month. If the 7th falls on a weekend, then we either have that month off or we are given a different date to drive. Requests for rides vary from month to month, but we could always use more drivers.
If you have any questions or would like to come FISH with us, please contact Carol Linneman and Wilma VanDyk through email@example.com.
Seymour Church is blessed to be partnering with Feeding America West Michigan to host four Mobile Food Pantry perishable food distributions here this year. These are held in our parking lot on Saturdays. Registration starts at noon; distribution of food begins at 1:00 PM and goes until 2:00 PM, or ends earlier if food is gone.
Our guests are neighbors from all walks of life. Some have lost their jobs, while others have jobs that just don’t give them enough to pay the bills each month. Some are having health problems and cannot work. All are loved by Jesus and need a helping hand. By giving them food, we are helping them like Jesus asked us to.
This ministry depends on a number of volunteers. If you are interested in sorting and handing out food, helping neighbors select/carry/load groceries, or help with set-up or clean up, you may call the church office at (616) 245-8726 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Team SPARK is a Parkinson’s Disease support group which meets at Seymour Church on the 2nd Sunday of each month (except in May, they meet on the third Sunday) from 3:00pm-4:30pm.
