To be a member of a church is to make a public promise to live according to God’s Word and to support the worship and work of the church. We encourage everyone who calls Seymour their church home to become official members. Joining Seymour Church is a simple yet significant process.
There are four steps to becoming a member of Seymour Church:
Step 1: Intro to Seymour New Member Class
We meet for two consecutive weeks for about 45 minutes following the Sunday service. The first session focuses on our core beliefs as followers of Jesus and the sharing of our faith journeys. The second session discusses our denomination and more specific information about the Seymour Church community. Typically there will be a class offered at least once every year (usually in February).
Our next New Member Class will be coming in October 2022.
Step 2: Complete a Membership Form
Once you have attended the Intro to Seymour class, please fill out a Membership Form. This provides us with your contact information, previous church membership, and baptism records.
Step 3: Conversation with your Elder and Deacon
Once you have completed the membership form, we will contact you to set up a conversation with an elder and a deacon. They will meet with you for about an hour to hear about your faith journey, pray with you, and discuss opportunities for discipleship and service. Following the interview, the elder and deacon will submit your name for membership at the upcoming Elder Board meeting.
Step 4: Public Affirmation of Membership Vows and Baptism
Upon Council approval, we will schedule a day with you to take your public membership vows at a Sunday morning worship service. If you have not been baptized before, your baptism will be scheduled for the same service as your vows.
If you would like to discuss membership or any of the steps, feel free to reach out to the church office or Pastor Brian (brian@seymourchurch.org).
