Dear Seymour Family,
So do you want the good news or the bad news first? Let’s start with the bad.
At the end of August, Pastor Shawn will no longer be serving as our Pastor of Congregational Life.
Good news now! Pastor Shawn is not leaving Seymour! He will continue to serve part time with our middle and high school students as their youth pastor.
Why this change? We are also excited to share that Pastor Shawn will begin training with the Grand Rapids Police Department in August to become a police officer. After many months of prayer and reflection, of talking with trusted peers and mentors, Shawn felt a strong call to serve our community and our city in this new way. He applied to the police department, and received an offer this past month.
As someone who has worked closely with Shawn for 6 years now, I can say with confidence that God will use Shawn in great ways as he joins the police department. I am also so glad that I will continue to be able to work with Shawn, even on this part time basis. Even more, I am thankful for Shawn’s continued calling to our middle and high school students.
Please join me in praying for Shawn and his family during this time of transition. Also be in prayer for Seymour Church and our leaders as we consider how God is leading us.
Finally, Shawn wanted to be able to share this announcement himself. Unfortunately (or fortunately!), he and his family have left for a scheduled vacation. However, before leaving, he was able to record a video, which is linked below. Check out the video for the story in Shawn’s own words. If you have any questions, Shawn will be very happy to talk to you about the possibility of scheduling a ride-along when he gets back. 😉
Peace in Christ,
Pastor Brian
